Matthew 1
That is a long genealogy... I heard once that there was a missionary working with some people who believed that one's authority was completely based on his lineage, and how far back he could trace his ancestry. So, when they translated the bible to their language, and it was being read outloud, in front of a group of the people, by the time they had finished reading Matthew 1, several people had already converted, because they realized that Jesus had the ultimate authority- with his lineage being able to be traced that far. But this story should be verified somewhere...

Wow, i was amazed by the genealogy. Its fourteen sets of 3 each ending with a important events. Birth of David, the exile to Babylon, and finally Jesus. God really did fulfill the promise. I read Matthew 1 before but never really paid a lot of attention to the genealogy. I even know some of the names form 10 grade OT classes.
PS. Man lamp great idea to use a blog we can talk about what we read. I like it cause many times i fail to pick up things that others do.
Yeah, i just pray that others will be willing to spend a small portion of their day to maybe discuss stuff here... it might not work out.
but i think it would be great if it did...
I also found interesting how inconvenient Jesus' birth was to Joseph (and mary), but it was God's plan, so it trumped all
